Brian Pennie

Brian Pennie shares an incredible tale of anxiety, addiction, and transformation.

Unable to escape the pain of anxiety and desperately seeking relief, Brian turned to heroin which saw him fall into a 15-year addiction that nearly — and probably should have — taken his life.

Until one fateful day, he managed to break free.

Life had given him a second chance. And my God did he take it...

Today, he is Author of Bonus Time: A true story of surviving the worst and discovering the magic of every moment; he is a speaker, a PhD candidate, self-development coach, and university lecturer.

With a relentless belief that we are what we think, Brian is on a mission to show people that change is possible, demonstrating actionable steps through a lived experience.

In this talk, Brian unravels his incredible story from the depths of despair to today, where he sees himself as one of the happiest men alive.

If you are looking for inspiration, I'm not so sure it gets better than this.

Some of the key talking points;

  • Self-talk
  • Awareness
  • Self-compassion
  • Morning rituals
  • How your belief becomes your reality
  • How to be better at communicating your needs

And so MUCH more.

Brian’s top three tips:

  1. Be ok with the fact your having anxiety. Be kind to yourself.
  2. Stop fighting anxiety.
  3. Self-observation. Observe without engaging.

THe biggest Obstacle from me was the Irish Accent!! lol, Just finshed veiwing and took a extra hour to watch and take notes. Fasinating, as what “WE RESIST PERSITS ” really resonated with me. Putting up affermations in areas im most likely to look at helps espically if im tired and just cant think of anything of the top of my head, and I can look at one and repeat affirmation as Brian has said. Its Reptition, and Continuity is KEY.
I also love how Brian has spoken about how our brains can be wired into postivity. I just could get the names of the areas of brain, which i want to research on. Personally Im fasinated with how our mind works as its so complex. Also was intrigued by the Sezuires he had as I have also had GrandMal Sezuires as a child as I have had Epilepsy since I was 3years old , and could understand the fear and anixety he would have experienced.. Brillant talk and very helpful .

What an incredible story of life adversity, facing the hardest of challenges and absolutely grabbing a second chance and new beginnings and also helping so many in your study and career stemming from it… bravo Brian you really are an inspiration. Letting anxiety flow and ebb and not engaging when it held you in a vice for so many years. I am looking forward to reading your book. 🙂 Wishing you only positive vibes and success for your life and all you do going forward.

I feel like I’ve taken so much from this incredible story. Your resilience is so inspirational and for you to have overcome such an awful experience gives me hope that anyone is capable of making some amazing changes. Thank you so much for sharing your story and I’m most definitely going to be reading your book.

Thank you for sharing your story and life experiences impacted by anxiety. We are kind to others but not ourselves. WOW hey. Even though we know we should be kind to ourselves, we just don’t. Time to make some changes towards a more positive self talk routine. We surround ourselves with spiritual belongs and items and attach to them physically and they visually stimulate us, but if we don’t have the kindess towards ourselves they mean nothing. Our soul is so precious, and thanks for reminding us again. We too have a physical routine but not a mediative routine.
