Anxiety can be an EXTREMELY painful journey. It seems pain and anxiety go hand in hand.

And not just emotional pain. Physical pain.

This often creates a vicious cycle which perpetuates both the anxiety and pain.

Dr Jonathan Kuttner specialises in the treatment of chronic joint and muscle pain.

Dr Kuttner himself experienced chronic pain for years after a near-fatal accident and is a testament to anybody struggling with chronic pain in their life that indeed there is life after pain.

He blew me away with his wisdom and all he had to share on both anxiety and pain in this interview covering;

  • The reptilian brain (and two protective mechanisms coming from it – one for anxiety. One for pain.)
  • How they end up going faulty and basically feeding our body with spam
  • The importance of diaphragmatic breathing
  • How to better understand and treat your pain
  • Trigger points

And so much more.

Feedback from Lewis (Attendee):

“Just finished watching Dr Kuttner’s talk. What an amazing explanation of what is going on physiologically. I’ve known for a while there is a psychological component to my pain, but this explains it on a whole other level I’ve never understood. And this just made so much sense. A penny definitely dropped.”

    Blown Away.. I have never had to do painmanagement, but I have never heard of LIZARD BRAIN and FLY BRAIN.. reminds me of ‘Fight or Flight “, I wish there could have been a diagram of all the technical ,jargon. I ve found myself in similar situations. Which helped me to understand Dr. Jonathan Kuttners, words. VERY INTENSE, have to watch again.

    Amazing information. I too have a slipped disc in my lower back causing a lot of pain for many years. My Anxiety flared up and became overwhelming and I have been working on managing my anxiety for the last year. It was only the other day that I realised that my back pain was almost non existence. I thought to myself has my attention of focus on my anxiety taken the attention away from my back pain. It appears from listening to Dr.Jonathan Kuttners that it may be so.

    Very informative and well explained. I already knew a little about how your brain registers pain due to a keen interest in neuroscience and psychology but I have never understood the physiology of psychosomatic symptoms. It’s amazing how purely understanding how your body and brain works is a massive step in recovery.

    I became a chronic pain patient after a breast lumpectomy. After the surgery, I began suffering nerve damage in my feet, perhaps from radiation into the tumor at the time of surgery or an autoimmune response to the tumor itself. Pain in feet often at a level 8-10. I just got a DRG stimulator implanted in me to block pain signals to my brain. However, I use Dr. Kuttner’s pain management techniques to bring down my pain level. This is hard work, but does help. I just listen to Dr. Kuttner’s gentle voice, and it alone, can bring my pain down. I listen to soothing music, use breathing techniques, etc., to help. Life is delicate and precious, and Dr. Kuttner’s concern and gentleness has been a God send to me. Even his daughter Naomi has this same gentleness. I love you, Dr. Kuttner.
